General Mental Health & Co-Occurring Disorders

Individuals struggling with anxiety, depression or other mood disorders tend to feel little hope and feel that they are losing control of their life. A person may also seek relief through substance use, which can worsen both conditions.

At Malvern Behavioral Health, our co-occurring disorder treatment programs are built on the understanding that mental health concerns such as situational or clinical depression and anxiety symptoms, can also make an individual more susceptible to developing a dual diagnosis or co-occurring substance use disorder.

Who Does This Program Help?

Malvern Behavioral Health offers a secure and supportive inpatient mental health program for adults experiencing challenges with mental health and/or co-occurring substance use disorders. We serve individuals who have a primary mental health diagnosis (such as acute depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation) and/or a co-occurring substance use disorder.

The Sage Program offers a secure and supportive inpatient behavioral health environment for adults experiencing these unique challenges. We will help you develop stronger coping skills, improved emotional regulation, and the development of practical life skills that together will enable your return to healthy day-to-day functioning.

Using evidence-based treatment models and trauma-informed care programs to support recovery, our team will work with you to create a comprehensive and individualized treatment plan targeting both psychiatric and substance use symptoms.

Individuals participating in group therapy.

  • Treatment for suicidal ideation

You can view our treatment program schedule here.

Mindfulness (ie. yoga, meditation) and movement activities will also be incorporated into the treatment day to help individuals self-soothe and improve their physical and emotional well-being.

The Sage Program at Malvern Behavioral Health offers a medically supervised, comfortable environment to carefully detox our patients as needed while providing inpatient psychiatric care. In addition, your social worker will ensure you have the proper behavioral health support in your community to continue your recovery journey when you return home.

A co-occurring disorder (often called a dual diagnosis) occurs when an individual experiences a primary mental health concern—such as depression, anxiety, or suicidal ideation, alongside a substance use disorder. The Sage Program provides a secure inpatient behavioral health environment specifically designed for adults facing these unique, combined challenges.

Not at all. The Sage Program is designed to meet you exactly where you are in your recovery journey. Whether you are actively using substances to cope with depression or anxiety, or you simply need a supportive space to manage a dual diagnosis, our staff provides a secure, trauma-informed environment free of judgment.

While insurance coverage varies, we accept all major commercial insurances, Medicare, PA Medicaid, and a self-pay option is also available. For more information, please call 610-480-8919.

We strive to make the process as smooth as possible. Our intake team works to connect you with care as quickly as possible.

If you meet inpatient criteria, call 610-480-8919 anytime. Providers can contact us for quick, easy instructions to refer you to one of our programs.
